The Core Virtues program employs a three-year cycle of virtues, and our rationale is explained in the introduction to each "Virtue of the Month" tab. For example, every September begins with "Respect and Responsibility" and the stories we showcase reinforce those traits, which reinforce justice, in that key month of community building. Every October (when school starts to be hard) begins with virtues such as diligence, perseverance, patience and self control, which are all aspects of temperance.
Some Core Virtues schools have chosen to customize the sequence of virtues in ways that make seasonal or specific sense for them. If your school is one of those, and you've decided, for example, to focus on "diligence" in February or "wonder" in October, our index below will help you find key texts. Below we list the virtues alphabetically and provide a link to the month, where you can locate recommended books.
